Drakes - General Information
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
The drake reproduction process involves a female and male drake mating, followed by the female laying up to four eggs. The female cares for the drake eggs for four months. When the infant drakes hatch from their eggs, the female continues to care for them, providing cooked meat brought as an offering from males. The larger the offering, the more likely the female will choose that male as her next mating partner.
Growth Rate & Stages
Drakes start as defenseless infants that require protection and care from their mothers. Around the age of three, infant drakes have grown large enough to hunt for themselves. The heat glands in their throats have developed enough to be of use to them.
The young drakes learn to hunt on their own and become independent of their mother. Young female drakes will seek new areas to claim as their territory.
Young male drakes wander between female territories, hoping to win favor by offering fresh prey. The males will hang around until the female picks one of them to be her next mate.
