Power Sources

Arms and other technological equipment require a source of power to operate. The only known power source for technology is steam canisters, which are commonly used as steam technology, have become an acceptable norm.

The steam canister was originally designed by Rumhar Gaile. Originally, using reinforced metal to make the canister, he could pump pressurized steam into them. Adding the valve and gauge mechanisms allowed for the steam to be expelled in controlled bursts. Rumhar found out later that storing steam energy in crystals could make canisters safer and more efficient. Not only did the crystals store more steam, they could release it in more controlled bursts.

Canister Size

There are three industry standard sizes for steam canisters: small, medium, and large. The different sizes help to scale technology to be universal based on the steam canister size. So, technology that requires a small canister will always use the same size regardless of who manufactured it.

Explosive Danger of Durability Loss

If a steam canister or equipment that has a steam canister in it has its durability reduced to zero, the canister explodes immediately. The explosion is the same as a shrapnel grenade.

Power Source Capacity (Bursts)

Each power source has a base number of bursts it can expel based on who they were manufactured by. Hammer and Wrench Armory has always been on top for having the largest capacity canisters while Tinker’s Constructs has the lowest. The number of bursts each canister has is the baseline, which can be altered depending on the type of equipment it is used with. Each type of technological equipment will indicate if it increases or decreases the power source’s capacity. If the equipment doesn’t specify, the capacity remains unchanged.

Refilling Canisters

When a power source is empty, they can be refilled for half the cost of a new one. However, each time they are refilled, they take one durability damage until it reaches one durability in which it can no longer be refilled. Canisters cannot be repaired unless the appropriate mastery has been taken.

A steam canister takes a specific amount of time to refill based on its size.

  • Small Canister: 10 minutes
  • Medium Canister: 20 minutes
  • Large Canister: 30 minutes
