Buzoku
Resides within many empires
The Buzoku people are rough primitives who only see power in strength. They care little for worldly possessions unless they give them more strength and power. There are many sub-species within this culture, but the Reptilia is the most common.
Customs
General Greeting
To greet someone equal to you in strength, you reach your arm out and grab their forearm. They do the same as you both flex to show your strength.
Fashion
The only formal attire people wear is colored headdresses that show their social status. Slaves do not wear headdresses.
- Brown indicates low standing
- Green indicates middle to low standing
- Red indicates middle standing
- Green indicates middle to high standing
- Yellow indicates high standing
- Orange indicates ruler
Some wear a bandana or headband to indicate their status, others use neutral colors to make decorative headwear. Any color that doesn't indicate a level of social status can be used to make decorative headwear.
Geography
Those who live a tribal life live among the wild. The main city of the Buzoku people is in the swamplands at the north-east base of the Keeper Mountains in the Empire of Grimslar. In these swamps is the capital city called Numa. Tribal villages are widespread throughout Grimslar and beyond.
Laws & Regulations
Backstabbing is extremely taboo and can lead to gruesome public executions. If you have a problem with someone or wish to increase your status in the tribe, you must confront them face to face with no tricks.
It is an extreme insult to point at someone. It can cause unnecessary challenges.
Religion
Religion in the tribal culture leans towards the god of chaos known to them as Nameless (Psion). This is because tribes use physical dominance to show who leads. They believe the violence they cause pleases Nameless.
The Buzoku choose to call their god Nameless because they believe their god has no true name, gender, or appearance. Chaos can manifest in countless ways, so the god of chaos has many faces and many names.
Society
The strongest rule supreme! That is the common principle of the Buzoku people. Those who are weak stay in the tribe and clean up after those who are strong.
The weakest of the tribe become slaves and are banded by having an iron ring burned into their wrists. A surgical procedure is required should a slave become strong enough to win their freedom.
Challenge
Commoners who wish to move up in their social standing can challenge others who are of higher standing to combat. The challenge is not to the death, but ends when one of the contestants are knocked unconscious or yields. If the challenger wins, they move up in social status while the loser moves down.
How to Challenge
To challenge another, you must look them in the eyes and salute them by placing your closed hand on your chest, then point at them until they respond. Who you challenge decides if it is a simple challenge to move up in social status or a supreme challenge in order to rule the tribe. If a challenger slaps your hand to the side, they are showing they want to set up the challenge for the future. If they slap your hand downward, they will fight immediately. Refusing a challenge is a sign of weakness and automatically lowers your social standing.
Supreme Challenge
Rulers can be challenged to combat to question their rule. The challenge is to the death and the winner rules supreme. After declaring a challenge, people cannot challenge a ruler for one month.
The right to determine the time of the fight is given to the ruler when they are challenged. They can either choose to fight immediately or within one month from the time of challenge. If they postpone a challenge, there is a fest and festival that doesn’t stop until the challenge day arrives.
Disciplines
Languages
Your native and secondary languages are based on your geographical location of your tribe. For example, if you grew up in Numa in the Empire of Grimslar (Grimslarian culture) you would probably speak Latlish as your native tongue.
Suggested Masteries
One character creation (CC) weapon mastery (i.e. Melee Tech Weapons or Martial Weapons) and one combat
Berserker
When your health is reduced to half or less, your chance to chain your damage dice is increased to the two highest numbers on the dice. So, if you have a 1d8 for a weapons damage, you only need to roll a seven or eight to chain the damage.
Berserker’s Rage
If you drop too or below fifteen health, you go into a rage and gain a temporary boost of +20 health, +3 accuracy and might, and +10ft. of movement. The rage lasts for several rounds equal to half your stamina instinct, rounded down (min. 1).
If your health is reduced to zero while raging, you continue to fight for 1d4 rounds before gaining the dying condition.
