Tear of the Fallen

This longsword holds the essence of a knight who died protecting the woman he loved while she fought by his side in battle. The sword is said to have been used by the woman he loved to seek revenge on the army that killed him. She took up the blade and, with the power of his essence, slaughtered most of the army while driving the blade deep into the chest of their general. Using a burst of inhuman speed, she thrust the blade deep into his chest before the general could realize that happened. As she let out a last cry of sorrow, a radiant blue burst of essence shot out in a sphere from the blade, throwing back the remaining army and breaking their morale. To this day, the blade protects its wielder, granting them special abilities.
The sword has its own essence that activates its abilities.
The blade causes those struck by it to feel the pain of loss through vivid dreams of what she had lost when her love died saving her life. Inflicting mental health damage on top of physical damage.
On critical strikes, the target takes 1d6 mental health damage on top of the damage caused by the critical strike.
Each time the sword strikes its target, it can spend 4 essence to inflict an extra 1d6 mental health damage.
Spending 10 essence, the sword can send out a wave of psionic energy that causes anyone within a 20ft. sphere to make a psyche check (DR 8 plus the wielder’s mental). Failing the check causes the targets to live out their most horrible fears in a loop for 1d4-1 rounds. This causes them to fall prone and helpless for the duration.
